Emerging byte-addressable non-volatile memory technologies provide an opportunity to rethink storage architectures. This paper introduces NV-Log, a novel logging mechanism for building consistent and durable data structures using non-volatile memories. NV-Log is an application-transparent, high-performance, and easy-to-use logging mechanism. It can significantly improve the performance of systems that rely on logging for consistency and durability while maintaining data integrity and crash consistency. Through extensive experiments, we demonstrate that NV-Log can outperform traditional mechanisms by up to an order of magnitude in several scenarios.
